Round Table – “The State of the Art in Everyday Aesthetics. Reflections on Recent Debates”
On June 22, 2022, the roundtable “The State of the Art in Everyday Aesthetics. Reflections on Recent Debates” was hosted at the University of Palermo.
The event, broadcasted on Microsoft Teams, featured a large number of international researchers, both in presence and online, to discuss different topics related to Everyday Aesthetics. Some of the most renowned scholars in the field, such as Thomas Leddy and Emily Brady, also joined the debate.
The roundtable featured the presentation of the following publications, recently released:
- The book‘Everydayness. Contemporary Aesthetic Approaches’ (Roma Tre Press & Presov University Press), edited by Lisa Giombini and Adrián Kvokacka, introduced by Maria Jesus Godoy (University of Seville, Spain);
- The special issue of ESPES. The Slovak Journal of Aesthetics, Vol. 10/2, 2021:‘Everyday Aesthetics: European Perspectives’, edited by Elisabetta Di Stefano & Sanna Lehtinen, introduced by Lisa Giombini (Roma Tre University, Italy);
- The special issue of “Popular Inquiry. The Journal of the Aesthetics of Kitsch, Camp and Mass Culture”, vol. 2, 2021: ‘Forgotten Everydays. Expanding Everyday Aesthetics’, edited by Elisabetta Di Stefano, Carsten Friberg, Max Ryynänen, and introduced by Adrián Kvokacka (University of Presov, Slovakia).
Contributors to the three publications were invited to explain the impact of their work on current discussions in Everyday Aesthetics.
Thanks to the attentive participation and keen interest of all participants, the event turned out to be a success, showing how involved this academic community is in trying to foster and further the conversation on Everyday Aesthetics.
